Catherine Cosme is a Belgian film director, production designer, and scenographer based in Brussels. A graduate of La Cambre, she works across cinema and theatre, drawing creative inspiration from both fields and developing a distinctive visual and narrative sensibility.
She began her career as an art director and production designer, contributing to numerous Belgian and European films. Notably, she worked as production designer on The Unknown of the Grande Arche (directed by Stéphane Demoustier), for which she was awarded the 2025 César for Best Production Design.
Alongside her work in set design, Cosme gradually moved into writing and directing. Her first short film, Les Amoureuses(2015), delicately explores the awakening of desire through the complex relationships between three women of the same family. The film was selected at numerous international festivals, including Brest European Short Film Festival, MECAL Barcelona, and Paris Courts Devant. Her second short film, Famille (2018), examines intercultural encounters and the silences they generate; it was widely screened worldwide, including at Clermont-Ferrand, Tampere, and Palm Springs.
In 2025, she directed her first feature film, Sauvons les meubles, a tragicomedy that approaches themes of family bonds and identity with sensitivity and humor, marking a significant step in her transition to feature filmmaking. She is currently developing her second feature, Bagarres.
At the crossroads of cinema and the performing arts, Catherine Cosme’s work is characterized by a strong visual approach rooted in scenography and a nuanced attention to human relationships.
